PFAS remediation waste

Spent GAC and resin from pump-and-treat, filter media, sludges and concentrates. We take PFAS remediation waste off your hands and see it destroyed by high-temperature incineration in the UK, so the PFAS you captured doesn't come back. One company for collection, paperwork and certificate of destruction, priced fast for tenders.

Why it matters now

  • 24 Sep 2025Evidence

Why incineration. The Environment Agency's evidence review found high-temperature incineration can achieve destruction efficiencies above 99.99% for PFAS in firefighting foams at 1,100 °C with a 2–3 second residence time. It calls it the only proven method for large-scale PFAS destruction. Activated carbon and ion exchange don't destroy PFAS; they leave PFAS-rich residuals.

  • Aug 2026Planned

Legacy contamination is on the agenda. The government's PFAS Plan names land contaminated by firefighting foams, industry and landfill as legacy PFAS contamination. It commits to technical guidance on legacy PFAS contamination by 2027, and to making the Environment Agency's PFAS prioritisation map available to public bodies in England by the end of 2026.

POPs waste must be destroyed. Waste at or above the POPs limits is POPs waste, and the POPs in it must be destroyed or irreversibly transformed. Limits include PFOS 50 mg/kg; PFOA and its salts 1 mg/kg (0.025 mg/kg in firefighting foam mixtures); PFHxS and its salts 1 mg/kg. Mixing doesn't help: a mixed load must be managed as POPs waste, even if the mixing diluted it below the limit.

Questions

What should happen to spent GAC and resin?

The Environment Agency notes that activated carbon and ion exchange don't destroy PFAS; they generate PFAS-rich residuals that must be carefully managed to prevent re-release. It calls high-temperature incineration the only proven method for large-scale PFAS destruction.

Is contaminated soil POPs waste?

Only if it is at or above the limits, for example PFOS 50 mg/kg or PFOA and its salts 1 mg/kg. Analysis decides.

Can you price disposal for a tender?

Yes. Send us the waste types, likely tonnages, packaging and any analysis. We check acceptance and come back with a fixed quote within 2 working days.

Do you take small lots from trials and pilot units?

Yes. Small lots are welcome, from a few drums to full loads.
